Leg #: 1 (Day 1-4)
Location: Home to Mesa Verde National Park
Mileage Driven leg/total: 564/564 miles
Weather: 78 high / 44 low Lovely sunny weather except 2 short afternoon hail storms, one with marble-sized hail but we were able to take cover under a tree canopy so no vehicle damage 🙂
Tofu Status: All systems working except Webasto Heater which Tony is troubleshooting and believes it is just a matter of it not being used recently
Highlights:
• Wildlife Sightings: Wild horses
• Ranger-led Ancesteral Pueblo Cliff Dwelling (Cliff Palace) tour…Why did they leave??
• Tony tested out his new bike on several of “the mesa” loops. He says it’s a 10/10, both bike and route
• Three awesome hikes with our favorite hike being Petroglyph Point Trail
• Beautiful views at every turn. Green as far as we can see.
• Two freak Hymer campervan sightings both which were shipped from Europe. One was a model we considered (but is too long in person) and the other is the actual model we placed an order for and will be perfect for us. Delivery date April 2024 near Paris, France.
Lowlights:
• We failed to read on the NPS website that Wetherill Mesa was closed this summer and therefore we had to forfeit several planned hikes.
• Overnight temperatures colder than expected and our heat is not working. 🙁
Tiger (Provan) Sightings: 0
Next: Ouray, CO
